Protoceratops

Protoceratops is a dinosaur of the suborder Ceratosaurus, which lived in Mongolia and Inner Mongolia of China during the Upper Cretaceous Period. Its distribution range overlapped with Velociraptor. Protoceratops belong to the Protoceratopsidae family, a group of early crested ceratops. Unlike the late crested horned dinosaurs, the protoceratops was smaller, lacked well-developed horns, and possessed some primitive characteristics.

Protoceratops were 1.5 to 2 meters long and were similar to sheep in size. They have a large head shield, which may be used to protect the neck, attach the jaw muscles, identify the species of animals, or combine the above functions.
