Hippo

Hippopotamus also called the hippo, common hippopotamus or river hippopotamus, is a large, mainly herbivorous, semi-aquatic mammal that native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of only two extant species in the hippo family, the other is the pygmy hippopotamus. The name comes from ancient Greek, meaning “hippo” (ἱπποπόταμος).

The hippopotamus is a mammal of the third continent and the heaviest cloven-hoofed animal in existence. Although they are physically similar to pigs and other terrestrial artiodactyl ungulates, the close relatives of the hippo family are cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises, etc.).

Hippos can pass through their barrel-shaped trunks and open large the mouth reveals huge canine teeth, almost hairless body, columnar legs, and large size to identify it. Despite its strong shape and short legs, it can still run short distances at a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph).
